We’re almost at the cusp of Cancer and Leo. There’s often confusion about the cusp – determining which sign you are born under and why, in some magazines, there are different dates for some Zodiac Signs, so I’d like to explain it to you.

This year, the Sun leaves Cancer and enters Leo on Fri. July 22 nd at 7:30 pm (Australian EST). This is the precise Cancer/Leo cusp. If a baby is born here (in the east of Australia) on this day before 7:30 pm they will be a Cancerian; after 7:30 pm they will be a Leo. Hence a Zodiac Sign usually begins at some point during the day, rarely the start of a day, and the time of birth is important.

The date a Zodiac Sign switches over can also vary because each year, after a leap year, the Sun will move into a Zodiac Sign ¼ day later; the next leap year resets the calendar and the process starts again.

The cusp brings an intricate blending of two Zodiac Signs, often the best of both signs, and you will see both Zodiac Signs in the nature of any person born in the cusp period. What I have also found over the years is that the effect of the cusp period is much longer that the couple of days either side– it can sometimes extend 7 – 10 days either side! So if you’re born on the cusp or you know someone who is, looking at both Zodiac Signs will bring a valuable layer of understanding.
